Etsy charges multiple fees on every sale. The tricky part is that most fees are percentage-based on the final price — so you can't just add them on top. You need to solve for the listing price algebraically, which is exactly what this calculator does.
| Fee | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Per listing (renewed every 4 months or upon sale) |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping charged to buyer |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Item price + shipping (Etsy Payments, US) |
| Offsite ads | 15% or 12% | Item price + shipping (only if sale came from an offsite ad) |
Since Etsy's percentage fees are calculated on the final listing price, you can't simply add the fees on top. Instead, we solve algebraically:
Etsy's search algorithm favors listings that offer free shipping, especially for orders over $35. This means sellers who charge for shipping may see lower search placement.
However, "free shipping" doesn't mean you eat the shipping cost — it means you bake it into your item price. When shipping is $0, this calculator automatically rolls your actual shipping cost into the listing price. The buyer pays the same total either way, but your listing ranks better.
The catch: Etsy's percentage-based fees (transaction + processing) are charged on the total sale amount regardless. So if your item is $25 with $5 shipping, fees are calculated on $30. If your item is $30 with free shipping, fees are still calculated on $30. The fee impact is identical either way.
Etsy runs offsite advertising on platforms like Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Here's how it works:
This calculator lets you toggle offsite ads on to see the worst-case scenario. We recommend calculating both ways so you know your price range.
